Jacob Barney was a Baptist minister who lived in the Boston area and founded churches in Charlestown and Swansea. He was granted thirty acres of land to be "laid out with fifty acres formerly granted to his father on 5 April 1652. He was one of the founders of the First Baptist Church, in Boston MA, in 1668. In 1690 he moved to Rehoboth, Bristol, and Swansea, Bristol, MA.

Jacob was married twice. He married Hannah Johnson on 18 August 1657 in Salem, Essex, MA by Major Hathorne. Hannah died on 5 June 1659 in Salem Essex, MA. He remarried on 26 April 1660 to Ann White in Salem, Essex, MA by Captain Marshall.

His will was made on 13 July 1692 and probated on 20 February 1693. Ann was the executrix.
