MADISON – Though not unexpected the passing away of Mrs. Herman Skaret was a shock to her many relatives and friends.

Mabel Juline Hegna was born in the town of Otsego, December 26, 1900. When but a few months old her parents moved to the town of Lowville, where she grew to womanhood. She was the daughter of Herman and Anna Hegna and was the fourth of eight children. This is the first death in the large family.

March 1, 1921, she was united in marriage to Herman Skaret. Since their marriage they have lived partly in the vicinity of Rio and partly in Madison. The last year they lived on a farm at Spring Prairie but on account of Mrs. Skaret's poor health they moved to Madison again in March. For three weeks she has been a patient at the Wisconsin General Hospital. A week ago Tuesday there was a decided change in her condition for the worse, and before any of her folks could be summoned she passed away at half past five o'clock. Her body was brought to Rio for burial.

The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Halver Skaret and at the Rio Lutheran Church. Her pastor, Reverend G.A. Sundby, who had confirmed her in the class of 1915, conducted the services. The church was filled with her many sorrowing relatives and friends. Interment followed at Bonnet Prairie Cemetery. The pallbearers were; Carl Amundson, Henry Onsrud, Melvin Matson, Casper Barraclough, Albert Johnson and Henry Cleberg.
