My father Willis always spoke of baby Gertrude, all the older kids remembered her. She died a few years before they left Illinois. They left Illinois cause the mines had closed, they lived in the mining town company housing. My dad always cried when he spoke of Gertrude & my sister is named after her. In the fall of 1954 when I was in 3rd grade, we traveled from Oregon, as far east Illinois. My parents found the cemetery where they were buried. They ordered a gravestone for all three of them. Once the cemetery rec'd it, installed it, they took a picture of the gravestone & mailed it to my parents. I have the original picture now that was sent them.
