Sam was the son of George Washington Young, Jr. and Matilda Elizabeth Lawson. He married Angie Lloyd on 22 Dec 1915 in Adair Co., MO.
They had 4 children, all born in Missouri, Dillard, Donna, Evelyn and Norman D. Young.

Their son, Dillard moved to Idaho in the 1930s and in 1938 Sam's father died. His mother had died in 1935, so with no parents left there, in Aug of 1939, the rest of the family moved to Idaho. Sam had spots of Tuberculosis on his lungs, as did his daughter, Evelyn. Donna, another daughter, also had asthma and needed the climate change. The move helped and all were improved.
Sam was a pillar of strength for the family. He cut hair, fixed dislocated backs and necks, sat up with the sick and helped prepare for burial, the bodies of family members who died, including his own mother and father back in Missouri. Their funerals were held in the parlor of their home.
