Evelyn W. Brockman, age 92, of Council Bluffs, passed away May 28, 2008, at Northcrest Care Center. Evelyn was born October 26, 1915, near Avoca, Iowa, to the late Harold and Martha (Plautz) Nielsen. She married George Brockman on April 2, 1937, and lived in Treynor, Iowa, where they raised eight children. Evelyn farmed near Treynor and moved to Council Bluffs in 1985. She was an avid seamstress, making numerous quilts, Raggedy Ann's and Andy's; stuffed animals and rugs as well as gardening. Evelyn was a member of Zion Congregational Church in Treynor. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, George W. Brockman in 1991; son, Roger Brockman in 2008; grandsons, Terry Brockman in 1968 and Robert Hatcher in 2007; brothers, Orville and Harold Nielsen; daughter-in-law, Louise Brockman. Evelyn is survived by daughters, Mary Lou Wayman and husband, Don of Layton, Utah, Marjorie Hatcher and husband, William of Treynor; sons, Gordon Brockman, of Lancaster, Calif.; Ronald Brockman and wife, LaVon, of Treynor, Iowa; Richard Brockman, Gerald Brockman and wife, Roberta, all of Council Bluffs, Gail Brockman and wife, Carolyn, of Marne, Iowa; 26 grandchildren; 66 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; sisters, Nadine Nielsen, of Avoca, Joyce Boettger and husband, William, of Shelby, Iowa, Sharon Stock, of Council Bluffs; brothers, Victor Nielsen and wife, Edna, of Walnut, Iowa, Donald Nielsen and wife, Marilyn, of Avoca, Doug Nielsen and wife, Sharon, of Tuscola, Ill., Morris Nielsen and wife, Pat, of Smithport, Pa; daughter-in-law, Vi Betts of Yorba Linda, Calif.; sister-in-law, Helen Nielsen, of Walnut; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation with the family, Friday, 6 to 8 p.m. at Zion Congregational Church in Treynor. Funeral service, Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at the church, with Rev. Alan Hardy, pastor officiating. Interment in the Zion Church Cemetery. A lunch will follow in the church hall. Memorials to Zion Church or Asera Care Hospice.
