Mary, Edith, and Rufina were sisters who never married and lived together in Mary's house. Mary Kunkel was the eldest daughter of Peter and Karoline. Mary was the cook, housekeeper and disciplinarian for her mother's family of fourteen children.

Rufina died of Pneumonia at age 33.
