Elvera Mae Koehn Allen

Elvera Mae Allen died Dec. 15, 2012, at her daughter's home in Ponca City.

She was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Meno the daughter of Jake and Elva Koehn.

Elvera graduated from Carrier High School, and attended Oklahoma State University. She married Russ Allen in 1947 and they moved to Ponca City from Stillwater a year later. In 1952 they purchased A & A Paint and operated it until 1992. Elvera was involved in all aspects of the business, her main responsibility being the office and accounting. She later worked as bookkeeper for Goodyear Auto until her retirement.

Elvera was an active member of Albright United Methodist Church in the Friendship Sunday School class and Dorothy McBride Circle. She was most at home in the nursery, serving for 45 years as "grandma", she was trusted with the care of babies by several generations of families. She was active in the community, honored with a lifetime membership in Soroptimist International and named Woman of the Year by American Business Women's Association. She was an avid supporter of Oklahoma State athletics in the Posse Club and Alumni Association.

Elvera was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Elva Koehn of Carrier; two sisters, Obera Meyer and Bertie Means; one brother, Melvin Koehn; one daughter, Elva Jean; one son, Benny Allen; and a daughter-in-law, Patty Allen.

She is survived by her husband, Russ Allen, of Via Christi Assisted Living; one daughter, Cheryl Long and her husband, Keith, of Ponca City; two sons, Dean Allen and wife, Karen, of Oklahoma City, Ron Allen, of Ponca City; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Belva Yoder, of Texas, and Jolene Custer, of Colorado; a sister-in-law, Shirley Dahlke; and numerous other relatives.

Viewing will be at Trout Funeral Home during regular hours. The family will receive visitors from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the funeral home. A private burial will be held Wednesday morning at IOOF Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Albright United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.
