"AGED WOMAN DIES IN KANSAS LAST SUNDAY - Mrs Alvira Wright Alcorn Resided for Many Years in Rome Township and Well Known - Word was received in the city yesterday of the death of Mrs Alvira Alcorn, aged 85 years, who passed away at the home of her son in Peabody, Kan, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Particulars were not received as to the cause of death, but in view of the fact that a letter from her about two weeks ago stated she was in her usual health, it is presumed she was not long ill. Alvira Wright Alcorn was born in Warren county on April 10, 1842, and spent most of her life in Rome township. Her husband, Timothy (sic) Alcorn died more than half a century ago (sic) and she is survived by the following children: Mrs Rosa Childs of Union City, A W Alcorn of Corry, W D Alcorn of Lander, Mrs Myrtle Gleason of Tidioute, Mrs Iva Clark and W D Alcorn of Peabody, Kan. There is also one surviving sister, Mrs Mary Lilley of Spring creek. Mrs Alcorn was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and during her long residence in Rome township attended the services at the Bethel church. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her. About two years ago, Mrs Alcorn went to Kansas to make her home with her son. The body is expected to arrive in Titusville tomorrow morning on the 'moonlight' train via Pittsburgh and will be taken to the undertaking rooms of E L Cummins. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm at the Free Methodist church, with interment following in the union cemetery on the Spring Creek road."
(Titusville Herald, Nov 8, 1927, p.7)

"FUNERALS - Mrs Alvira W Alcorn - There was a large gathering of relatives and friends present at the Free Methodist church at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon for the funeral services conducted in memory of Mrs Alvira W Alcorn, and the numerous beautiful flowers attested the high esteem in which she was held . Rev L L Adams, pastor, conducted the service and Mrs Adams and Mrs Ewing sang 'Lead Kindly Light,' 'Face to Face,' and 'Sometime We'll Understand.' The interment was made in the union cemetery on the Spring Creek road, north of the city, the following acting as pall-bearers: Ambrose, Dale and Willis Alcorn, Roy Lilley, Charles Warner and Glenn Hecker."
