PLATTEVILLE - Reuben Clifton, age 99, of Platteville, died on Friday, July 17, 1998 at Gray's Nursing Home in Platteville. He was born on March 11, 1899 in Lima Township, Grant County, the son of Marvin and Annise Adora (Wilkins) Clifton. He was married to Mabel Cliff on October 27, 1923. She died on March 20, 1979. Reuben farmed in the Platteville area until 1945. After moving into Platteville, he worked as a carpenter for Don Martens builders for several years. He was a member of the Platteville United Methodist Church and the Lily of the Mound International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #6 of Platteville.

He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis (Milton) Rewey of Englewood, Florida; four grandchildren, Michael (Pamela) Rewey of Madison, Peggy (Steven) Wedige of Englewood, Florida, Patty (Thomas) Martin of Bedford, New Hampshire, Curtis Rewey of Orlando, Florida; 11 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Verian Reuter of San Jose, California.

Besides his parents and his wife Mabel, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen Rewey on July 17, 1979; three brothers, Claude, Clair and Gerald Clifton; and four sisters, Winifred Clifton, in infancy, Perl Hughes, Beulah Yoose, and Vivian Schmidt.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Platteville.
