There were numerous Benjamin Cannon in this area at the same time. Recent DNA results connect this Benjamin Cannon to a Benjamin F Cannon. According to recently learned information, Benjamin married in 1807. He lived in Marion, Tennessee in 1840; registered for military service in 1812 and died in Bledsoe Tennessee, at the age of 75, where he is buried. I am appreciative of the DNA update!

Suggested edit: DNA from Descendants Points to Different Parents - DNA from descendants of Mary Skeen and Benjamin Cannon does not support a direct relationship with the Mecklenburg Co., NC Cannons nor the McKnitt family. DNA clearly points to Benjamin Cannon and Mary East as the parents of Benjamin Cannon b. Bet. 1771–1781 in VA. Documentation (censuses) from his descendants also supports he was born in Virginia which adds weight to the wrong parentage. Benjamin's descendants all match the DNA of the descendants of the siblings of Benjamin and Mary (East) Cannon heavily. Whereas there is no DNA matches to the Mecklenburg Co., NC Cannons.

The DNA also supports a different relationship between his wife, Mary, and the Skeen family and not McKnitt. Her parents are John Skeen and Catherine White. Mary also heavily matches the DNA of the descendants of siblings in that family.

The DNA also matches up further up the trees of both these different maternal lines of these Cannon and Skeen lines of the East, Elams, Whites, Hughes, etc.
