Lena Jenkins, the fourth child of Leonard and Jennett Hulburt Jenkins, was born in Wayne Township, July 7, 1874 and died at Monroe, Feb. 4, 1916 at the age of 41 years, 6 months and 28 days.
Her early days were spent as an industrious student at the Wayne Center school.
On July 7, 189, her fifteenth birthday she with three of her schoolmates was baptized and united with the Free Baptist Church whose services she gladly attended as long as possible.
Although ill health kept her from home in her later years yet that home was much in her thoughts.
Always an industrious girl her skillful fingers enabled her to pass many otherwise lonesome hours in the fashioning of many beautiful pieces of fancy work for the ones she loved.
Her father and brother Merrill preceded her to the Great Beyond. Besides her mother, she leaves one brother, Austin of Washington, and three sisters, Jennie Graham of Amhurst, Mass., Ida Clark of Ft. Shaw, Mont., and Dora Collett of Balasore, India, besides fourteen nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held at the home of her mother in South Wayne at 1:30 pm of Feb. 8th conducted by Rev Crandy who spoke from Rev. 21.4. Interment was made in the Eastman Cemetery.
