F.R. Davidson Killed By Gun
Accidental Shooting Is Verdict Of Coroner
Frank R. Davidson, for several years chief assistant to County Attorney Marvin Scurlock and a law partner of his, was accidentally killed at the camp of his brother, Judge W.H. Davidson, sometime Saturday afternoon. He had gone with his brother and family to spend Armistice Day. In the afternoon he had gone hunting with his nephew, W.L. Davidson. they became separated and when Frank R. failed to return at dusk a search was instituted for him. During this search members of the family were informed that he had been seen going to Beaumont and this caused them to abandon the search. His body was discovered Sunday morning by the nephew with a charge of shot in the breast. The exact manner in which Davidson met his death will probably never be known. He was found lying on his back with the shotgun between his legs. His left hand clutched the barrel and was powder burned. A branch of yupon was found lying on the ground and this was taken to indicate that he had been toying with it and in some manner it became entangled with the trigger of the shotgun. Justice of the peace T.W. Redman rendered a verdict of accidental death. Funeral arrangements will not be made until after the arrival of his mother from Austin, who is due in Beaumont tonight. Frank Davidson was 40 years of age, the son of the late Judge W.L. Davidson who sat upon the court of criminal appeals for 30 years. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. W.L. Davidson, three brothers, T.P. Davidson, attorney of Abilene; D.A. Davidson, an official of the United States bureau of animal industry with headquarters in New Braunfels; W.H. Davidson, a member of the law firm of Gordon, Lawhon, Davidson and Sharfstein, Beaumont; three sisters; Mrs. Nellie Grant of Dallas; Mrs. George W. Graves of Houston, and Mrs. Susie Blank of Austin. He was a world war veteran. It is probable that the funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon with interment in Magnolia cemetery.
