The world lost a noble woman of faith, talent and heart on December 31, 2004, when Cloy Paulson Kent of Bountiful, Utah passed away at her home. She leaves behind a legacy of great achievement and loving connections to family and friends. Cloy was born to Andrew J. Paulson and Chloe Dack Parrish on September 26, 1917 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She descended from Mormon pioneers, among whom were Samuel and Joel Parrish, settlers of Centerville. Cloy is survived by her husband, James A. Kent (originally of Iowa City), six children, 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Jim and Cloy were the proud parents of seven children; Janet Kent of Boise, Idaho; Susan (Larry) Witkowski of North Salt Lake, Utah; Robert (Deidre) Kent of Bellingham, Washington; Patricia (Grover) Marsh of Centerville, Utah; John (Janice) Kent of Woodland Hills, Utah; David (Carol) Kent of Boise, Idaho; and Elizabeth Kent who died shortly after birth. Cloy found the love of her life, James Alfred Kent, when he came to work in the Eastman Kodak store in Salt Lake City. They were married in 1942, after the war they settled in Iowa City, Iowa and stayed 40 years. In 1985 after Jim's retirement from the University of Iowa they moved to Bountiful, Utah. Cloy was blessed with tremendous artistic talent, which was apparent early in her life. She studied with top photographers in Salt Lake City and New York City. She studied the art of the Great Masters, and then applied their techniques in her own work with highly effective results. During her years in Iowa City and Bountiful, she painted hundreds of portraits, most notably leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Thomas S. Monson, Joseph B. Wirthlin, Jeffrey R. Holland and Barbara Smith. Her most famous portrait was of Sister Mary Catherine McAuley founder of Mercy Hospitals worldwide. Her career leaves behind a rich legacy for many families, universities and organizations throughout the world. Cloy continued to paint up until the last week of her life. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday January 3, 2005 at the Bountiful Woodland Hills Ward Chapel, 640 S. 750 E. Friends may call Sunday Jan. 2, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. at the Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and Monday 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church.
