"The death of John H. Genter occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stearns, No. 47 East Main street, in Johnstown, at 6:30 last Wednesday morning. For the past year he had been in failing health, but was able to be about the street until last Thursday. The deceased, who was in his seventy-seventh year, was born at Springfield Center, where he passed the earlier part of his life, after which he removed to Kansas. About fifteen years ago he located to Broadalbin, but for the past few years he had resided a portion of the time in Johnstown, and being unmarried, made his home with Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Bradley. Although he had no close family ties, he was a very companionable man and always welcome at the firesides of his friends. In his business dealings he was the soul of honor and those who knew him, respected him highly. He is survived by a number of relatives in Gloversville, and a still larger number in Otsego county and vicinity. A prayer service was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stearns late Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Jas. A. Williams, D. D., officiating, and afterwards the remains were taken to the home of his nephew, Arthur Kelly, at No. 26 Sixth avenue, where the funeral was held, Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Messrs. Perry Kelly, Chas. Kelly, Percy Hood and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Engell were the relatives here who attended the funeral. The interment will be made at Springfield Center.---Our Springfield Center Reporter." ["The Otsego Farmer" (Cooperstown, NY), Fri., Feb. 21, 1908]
