"..Captain Joshua Rogers, for many years a respectable shipmaster and merchant in this place [Falmouth], who died without issue in 1823;" from Footnote 2 on page 117 (continued on page 118) in "Journals of the Rev. Thomas Smith and the Rev. Samuel Deane" as edited by William Willis. [Note: Joshua held Mariner's Certificate #43 and was a past president of the Portland Marine Society]. "..Captain Joshua Rogers of Portland. He was a master mariner and son of Gershom and Sarah (Waiter [sic])." From "Sketches of Windham History" by Samuel T. Dole, Windham Scrapbook Vol. 1, page 45. "..An interesting fact was accidentally left out of our last paper in regard to the parents of Joshua Reynolds [sic] who married Mary Purinton Jan. 16th, 1783. He was the son of Gershom and Sarah (Waite) Rogers whose father, John Waite, was born in Newbury, Mass., 1702 died in Portland, 1769." From "Sketches of Windham History" by Samuel T. Joshua Rogers, then 28, was one of 60 Falmouth residents who signed a petition dated January 23, 1786, to the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in General requesting the incorporation of Falmouth Neck into a "distinct town." On March 26, 1804, Joshua Rogers was listed as a Selectman for Portland and also served on the Health Committee for the city that year ("Chronicles of Casco Bay":30, Portland Public Library.) The Cumberland County Registry of Deeds lists 26 property transactions in the name of Joshua Rogers.
