Marshall (Joe) Cardwell, 72, of LaGrange, died Sunday at West Georgia Medical Center.

Mr. Cardwell, born August 11, 1930, in Troup County, was the son of the late Reuben Jesse and Mary Lacy Chatham Cardwell. He had lived here all his life and retired from the Troup County Sheriff's Department and Interface Flooring. He was currently employed at West Georgia Medical Center as a security officer. He was a member of Elm City Lodge #544, Free and Accepted Masons and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was Baptist.

Survivors include his wife Eloise Cardwell; a daughter and son - in - law, Connie and Richard Hinkle; two sons, Michael Ray Cardwell and Freddie Joe Cardwell, all of LaGrange; six grandchildren; Michelle and Shane Lanier of Newport News, Va., Tiffany Cardwell, Justin Cardwell, Joshua Cardwell, Cara Hinkle, and Michael and Renee Hinkle, all of LaGrange; two great - grandchildren, Logan Lanier and Mason Lanier, both of Newport News Va., two sister Gladys Watson and Bessie Mae Yearwood, both of LaGrange.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road with the Revs. R.C. Prescott and Chris Davis officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
