Mrs Ella Barto, who lived through the Indian wars in Minnesota as a girl and through the Seattle fire as a young married woman, died yesterday at the family home, 1809 E Fir St. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Thursday at the Bonney-Watson Company.
Mrs. Barto was the widow of Robert W. Barto, who died here in 1909.
Mrs. Barto was born in Greensburg, Ind. With her family she traveled by ox-team to Minnesota, where she taught school. She was married there by 1879. She and her husband came west in 1882, settling in Seattle. Mr. Barto went into the contracting business, and graded some of Seattle's downtown streets.
Just before the fire of 1889, Mr Barto went into the loan and insurance business. His office was demolished in the fire and Mrs. Barto helped him put up a tent for a company office.
Mrsa. Barto is survived by two sons, Joseph A. and Thomas C. Barto, three nephews, Dr. S.D. Collins, Bruce and Sam Barto and a niece, Mrs. Jeannette Miller.
Mrs. Barto was a member of the Washington Pioneer Association and of Lorraine Chapter No. 6, Order of the Eastern Star.
