CSA, 9th Mississippi Cavalry Regiment, Co.D; Private.
Anthony enlisted on 5/14/1862 and served in the 17th
Mississippi Cavalry (Steede's) Battalion, Co.E. He was
transferred on January 1, 1864 to Co.F. of this same unit.
The 17th MS was then consolidated with the 17th
Tennessee Cavalry (Sanders') Battalion to form a
part of the 9th Mississippi Cavalry (Miller's) Regiment.
Anthony served in the 9th's Company D (Stevens' Company), a company composed primarily of men from the Mississippi counties of Green and Perry. Anthony was one of the few men left in this regiment to
surrender to Union forces in Meridian, Mississippi on
5/4/1865, many of the men in this regiment having
been captured in the fighting at Selma, Alabama on
4/2/1865. Anthony was paroled in Mobile, AL on
5/22/1865. At his surrender his place of residence was
listed as Perry County, Mississippi.
