Lavina was born in Lake City, SD. Her Folks came from Michigan, they settled in Lidgerwood, North Dakota, and later went to Veblen, South Dakota then to the Britton area where they farmed. They are buried in the Britton Cemetery.
Lavina taught grade school in Amherst, Marshall County, South Dakota.
She married John T Buss Oct 6, 1921. They were married unil Lavina was killed in a car accident in Kansas along with her daughter Isla Mae and Son-in-law Elmer.

The Britton Journal...1946..AMHERST PAIR WED 25 YEARS.......Hold open House Sunday at Church. Sixty Relatives, Friends Call......Mr. and Mrs. John Buss of Amherst celebrated their silver anniversary, Sunday, October 6, at an open house at the Amherst Union church, where 60 relatives and friends called to congratulate them. The afternoon was spent socially with Rev. Henry Vande Broke of Orange City, Iowa offering prayer while a quartet composed of Darlene Curr, Henry Hassebroek, Edwin Symens and Austin Stevens sang "Blest Be the Tie That Binds". Numerous gifts were presented the honored couple among which was a corsage from the Bethel Circle and $60 from the group. A delicious lunch, including a three tier wedding cake topped with a miniature bride and groom, was served during the afternoon. The cake was made by Mrs. Herb Hagen of Britton. Hostesses for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Roelfs, Miss. Ione Buss and Mrs. Charles Lovejoy all daughters of the couple and Mrs. Buss' sister and husband. Mr. and Mrs Leonard Enderson of Havana, N.D.. Darlys, their only son, who is with the Merchant Marines now stationed in Texas, was unable to be present for the occasion.(bio added by aritha buss)
