"Sister Sunshine"

Our precious Mother, Grandmother, sister and friend, Maude Stephens Winebrenner, age 87, returned peacefully with honor to our Heavenly Father on the morning of Wednesday, December 6, 2006. She was surrounded by her four loving daughters who serenaded her with many of her favorite songs.

Born August 30, 1919 in Columbus County, North Carolina, to William McDuffie and Emily Grace Morse Stephens. She married Maurice LaVern Hufham in the spring of 1940, later divorced. Mama owned and operated flower shops in various locations in North Carolina. In 1960, she moved to Salt Lake City to be more involved in the LDS Church. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she was called and valiantly served in many capacities throughout her life. Mama served an LDS mission in Portland, Oregon, 1972. She married her sweetheart, Robert Earl Winebrenner on March 3, 1977 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was later an usher at Temple Square and at the Conference Center for many years. Mama diligently served in the Salt Lake Temple where her sparkling eyes and contagious smile awarded her the name, "Sister Sunshine", as she brightened the souls of many people.

Throughout her life she devoted her time in serving the Lord and her family, which was most important. Mama had many hobbies. She loved caring for her plants, reading the scriptures, crocheting blankets, collecting seashells and faithfully writing in her journals, which are greatly cherished by her family. Mama loved being surrounded by family, as they always brought her great joy and happiness. She was a great example to them and will always be remembered for that.

Survived by her daughters: Wynelle (Leniol) Weston, Cheryle Hufham-Addis, Gayle Anne (John) Douros, Nancy Karyn (Robert) Ledford; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandsons; sister, Leona Willoughby; brother, W.M. Stephens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Winebrenner; parents; brothers and sisters: Ruby S. Ward, Carl Stephens, Clifton Stephens, Paul Stephens; twin sister, Myrtle S. Spivey; and granddaughter, Kristy Batchelor.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 9, 2006, 12:00 noon at the Westbrook 4th Ward, 6364 South 3200 West. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 10:30-11:40 a.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park., West Valley City. Arrangements under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
