At an early age she moved with her parents to East Texas. She graduated from Kilgore High School in 1942, and attended Kilgore College, where she was a member of the Rangerettes and a sorority. She worked several different places for a short time before obtaining employment with Shell Oil Company.
On March 22, 1946, she married Robert F. Hallum, of Longview, after his return from World War II.
During her children's years in school, she was very active in their activities. She served as room chairman, and held many offices in the Parent Teacher Association and received a lifetime membership. As the children became older, she began working in the family business until retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Longview.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert F. Hallum, her parents, and brother, John Ward Patterson of Casper, Wyoming.
