Oliver Stone was born in Warrensburgh, New York, Jan. 27, 1823, and died in Waucoma, Iowa, April 28, 1899.

On Jan. 20, 1849 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Bonesteel, who with their four children remain to mourn the loss of an affectionate husband and kind father.

He came with his young family to Iowa in 1860, and has made his home in this township nearly forty years.

He was converted in 1874 and united with the U. B. church in Eden, and in 1891 he united with the M. E. church in Waucoma.

The 20th of January last a pleasant party of relatives and near neighbors surprised him by gathering at his home to help him celebrate his golden wedding. At that time he seemed the happiest of the happy gathering. Little did any of us think at that time that he would so soon be called home.

He was a good man and lived a consistent christian life and we verily believe he has "ascended the hill of the Lord." (Ps. 24 ).

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, the people gathering at his home where selections from the 14th of John were read, an appropriate hymn sung, and after prayer his many friends took a last look at the calm face of the friend and dear one. Then the procession moved to the cemetery where all that is mortal of Father Stone was laid away.

The people then assembled at the M. E. church where appropriate memorial services were conducted by the Pastor assisted by Rev. V. B. Hill, pastor of the Congregational church.
