Nine-year-old Niels Christian Christiansen, son of Mads, left Denmark and came to America along with his widowed mother, Anne, and siblings Anne Mary (7), Hans C (4), and James Peter (2). They traveled steerage class aboard the ship "Nevada," and arrived at the Port of New York on 16 Sep 1880. Likely continuing the journey by train, the family settled at Weber County, Utah where his mother married William Royle.

Niels is laid to rest alongside his mother, Anne, step-father, William Royle, and brother James Peter.

In 1899, Niels married Johannia Lauritz. They were blessed with the birth of daughter Furnessia Elvine Christiansen. But days before her 1st birthday, Niels' died of pneumonia. Two years later Niels' brother, James Peter Christensen, married Niels' widow and helped to care for Niels' sweet daughter.
