Julius D. Spitze of 500 W. Fourth Ave., a retired farmer, died Sunday at 12:15 a.m. at the Colonnades Nursing Home, Granite City, where he had been a patient eight months. He was 82 years old.
Mr. Spitze, who retired from farming 10 years ago, was born Jan. 20, 1883 in Edwardsville, a son of Frederick W. and Catherine Dietzel Spitze. He was married Feb. 20, 1909 to Bertha T. Stullken who died Oct. 20, 1933. In 1934 Mr. Spitze married Ida Mansholt Ucthman, who survives.
Other survivors are two sons, Virgil J. of Edwardsville and Murl D. of Peoria; a stepson, Edward Ucthman of Alton; a brother and three sisters, Wesley Spitze and Mrs. Henry (Bertha) Schoeppel of Berryville, Ark., Mrs. Louis (Emma) Schmidt of New Athens and Mrs. Martha Lange of Edwardsville. Three granddaughters survive. He was preceded in death by two sons.
Visitation will be at Weber Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today. Rites have been set for 2 p.m. Tuesday from the funeral chapel with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. The Rev. James L. Feaman, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, will officiate.
