Press was the son of James and Katie Marsh Pendergrass. one of seven children born to the marriage.

Press married Lou Anderson September 15, 1907 in Colbert County, Alabama. Their children were: Lily, Tom, Edgar, & Ruth.

After Lou's deaht 1923, Press married Annie Cramer July 22, 1924 Lauderdale County, Alabama, they divorce July 1929.

He next married Pearl Alpha Oxford March 2, 1940 in Colbert County, Alabama. Pearl died 1948 in Athens, Alabama.
