SHREVEPORT, LA - Services for Dorothy Baker Brantley, 89, will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel, with the Reverend Nathan Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Filmore Cemetery in Haughton. The family will be receiving visitors from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 20, 2012 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born in Haughton, Louisiana, on September 19, 1923 to Eli Hugh and Glennie Stewart Baker, and she died peacefully in her sleep after a lengthy illness with her family by her side on November 16, 2012. She proudly served in the Woman's Army Corps during W.W. II. After the war she met and married Maurice Clellan Brantley. Dorothy studied fashion design at Centenary College. She enjoyed designing and making clothing for her daughters when they were young. She later went to LSUS where she joined the Alpha Phi sorority and served as Telephone Chairman and Directory Chairman for many years. After graduating from LSUS she went to work for the Internal Revenue Service. After retiring she became a volunteer at the Randle T. Moore Center filing tax returns for the elderly. She loved flowers and gardening, had an extensive library, and loved to travel. Dorothy was a great cook and was very pleased when her recipe would be featured by Carolyn Flournoy in the Shreveport Times. She was an avid Saints and LSU fan who never missed watching a game.

She is preceded in death by, the father of her children, her parents; brothers, Billy Hugh Baker, and Bobby Henry Baker, L.C. Baker and Kenneth Baker; daughter, Jane Kristin Brantley Rogers; step-grandson, Justin Cole Kornrumph.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Russell Brantley and wife Jean; daughters, Barbara Brantley Kornrumph and husband Randy, Holly Preedom and husband Tom; sisters, Imogene Dove, Lillian Johnson, Linda Dowling and husband Carroll Wayne; grandsons, Gabriel Jones, Scott Jackson and wife Carrie; granddaughters, Rachel Broussard Russell and husband Chris, Rhonda Williams, Kristin Coyne, Ashley Coyne Brown and husband Nick, and Anna Coyne. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend thanks to the Springlake Nursing Home and the Northwestern Louisiana War Veterans Home for their loving kindness and care. The family would especially like to thank caregivers, Gloria Denman, Diane Victoria Ambrose, and Shellyne Harris for their love and kindness toward Dorothy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's name to the Shriners' Hospital.
