Funeral services for George Eugene Currie, Sr. (1904-1964), 59, who died unexpectedly Friday afternoon as the result of a heart attack, were held at 10 a.m. today in the Johnson-Davis Chapel with Rev. Arthur Rideout officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill East Cemetery with Palatka Lodge 1232 BPOE Elks conducting graveside rites.
Mr. Currie had been a long time resident of Putnam County. He was a member of BPOE Elks, 1232, and was Past Exalted Ruler and had held several State offices with the Elks. He was a member of F&AM 34 and member of the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Currie; mother, Mrs. Mamie Allen Currie; one son, George Currie, Jr., all of Palatka; brother, C. C. Smoak, Jacksonville; and one grandson. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd Monday, 13 Apr 1964.)
