William Glenn Miller
(May 14, 1916 - October 22, 2012)

William Glenn Miller, age 96, of Newport (Rankin Community) passed away Monday, October 22, 2012 at Newport Medical Center. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea, Germany and Japan. He received the Army Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign, UN Korean Service, Korean Service, National Defense Medal, ROK War Service, Marksman, Sharp Shooter and Expert Gunner. Mr. Miller was one of the oldest veterans in Cocke Co. and the oldest person in the Rankin community. He was preceded in death by his wife Marie Miller, son Garland Glenn Miller, grandson Michael David Miller, Jr., parents Ulys and Kate Miller, brother Clifton Harold Miller, and special nephew Ronnie Clayton Cody. Survivors include his daughters Peggy Huth of Florida, Gloria Tate (Lowell), Drucilla Phillips (Butch) and Shirley Manning (Darrell), sons Glenn Miller (Betty) of Missouri, Michael Miller and Bill Miller (Lisa), daughter-in-law Pam Marshall, grandchildren Brad Miller, Susan Outen, Eric Miller, Doug Miller, Stephanie Moyer, Kristen Miller, Rebecca Palmer, Mark Huth, Michael Huth, Cindy Huth, Stephen Tate, Lauren Weems, Megan Phillips, Mickie Phillips, Justin Manning, Christopher Manning, Derek Lynn Miller, Dustin Blake Miller, William Jason Miller, Staci Lynn Settlemeyer and Alicia Danelle O'Neil, 28 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, sister Edna Cody (Clayton), sister-in-law Kathleen Miller, special caregiver Juanita Speed along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of close friends and neighbors. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Rankin Baptist Church with Rev. James Seal, Rev. Glenn Ball and Rev. David Alder officiating. Interment will follow in Rankin Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in the chapel of Brown Funeral Home.
