Deceased Name: Wayne E. Hatcher, 88, of Tug Fork
Wayne E. Hatcher, 88, of the Tug Fork community, Ripley, WV, passed away February 4, 2012 in Elder-care of Ripley, following a brief illness.
He was born June 25, 1923, in Kentuck, WV, a son of the late Rosco N. and Icie Belle (Williams) Hatcher. Four brothers including a twin brother and six sisters also preceded him in death.
He was a retired farmer and retired from Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation, Ravenswood, and was a member of United Steelworkers Union, Local #5668. Prior to Kaiser, he worked at Goodyear Rubber in Akron, OH and for DuPont at the Belle, WV Plant.
He began his education in a one-room schoolhouse, Forrest Home, and was a graduate of Ripley High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mabel Maxine (Jones) Hatcher; son and his wife Steve and Melissa Hatcher of Ripley; daughters and sons-in-law, Vera M. and Thornton Smith of Parkersburg, and Velma "Mackie" and Tom Good-son of Ripley; grandchildren, Lisa and (Kelly) Snyder of Belmont, Lori and (Jeff) Renner of Arvilla, Lynn and (Dave) Allen of Bear, DE, Tommy and (Bri) Goodson of Ravenswood, Whitney and (Marc) Scholl of Ripley, Kendra and (Brandon) Hersman of Evans, Chris and (Caroline) Smith of Conover, NC, Dave and (Jodi) Smith of Rockport, and Phil Smith of Vienna, and 15 great grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Evans, WV, with the Rev. Kelly Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Fairplain Cemetery, Ripley. Visitation wasfrom 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Salt Hill Community Church, c/o Patty Hall, 66 Juniper Grove Drive, Cottageville, WV.
