James Cooper, 86, a resident of Moline about twelve years, died at 7:40 last night in the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Ahlene, 3119 Fifteenth street C. He had been failing in health some time, but was seriously ill only about a week.
He was born Oct. 2, 1851, in County Down, Ireland, and came to America in 1902. He started farming in Rural township and continued to do so until the time of his wife's death, when he came to Moline to live with his daughter.
Surviving are two sons, James and Hugh Cooper of Waverly, Ia.; three daughters, Mrs. James Sherwood of Hollywood, Cal., Mrs. J. L. Stuffelan of Waverly, Ia., and Mrs. Ahlene; one brother, Robert Cooper of Coal Valley; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The body was taken to Wendt funeral home, Moline.

Funeral services for James Cooper, 86, who died Thursday night in his one on 3119 Fifteenth street C, Moline, were held Saturday afternoon in Wendt funeral home. The Rev. Walter A. Tillberg, pastor of Trinity Lutheran church, officiated, Edward Berggren sang and Mrs. Berggren played the organ.
Pallbearers were George Zinser, Ben Anderson, Robert Schroeder, Jacob Simmons, John Normoyle and August Linn. Burial was in Homestead cemetery near Orion.
