OBITUARY :
RAIL OFFICIAL CHARLES WELTY DIES AT 50

CHARLES FRANKLIN WELTY, treasurer of the Boonsboro town council, died at the Washington County Hospital Friday at 1:30 p.m. after an illness of two and one half weeks, aged 50.

He was the husband of Mrs. Mary A. (Beeler) Welty and was a supervisor of safety for the Western Maryland Railroad.

Born in Wildell, W.Va., he was the son of Frank L. Welty of Hagerstown and the late Bertha Irene (Hansrote) Welty.

In addition to his council post, he was a member of the Boonsboro Water Board, the town's volunteer fire company and ambulance club. He was a Red Cross first aid instructor also.

Besides his wife and father, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Welty, at home; step-mother, Mrs. Margaret (Dougherty) Welty of Hagerstown; sisters, Mrs. Charles Miles, Baltimore; Mrs. James Resh, Hagerstown; Mrs. Edgar Beckley, McDonald, Ohio; Mrs. Glenn Nunamaker, Hagerstown; and brothers, Frank Welty, Jr., Westminster; and Lee C. Welty, Hagerstown.

A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The body was removed to the Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro, where services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Fred Kurkowski will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will meet friends at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9.

Casket will not be opened.
