Harvey K. Andersen
October 19, 1921 - November 12, 2012
Harvey K. Andersen, age 91, recently of Rutherfordton, NC formerly Thornton, IL, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012. He was born October 19, 1921 in Withee, WI. Beloved husband of the late June, nee Kostroski. Devoted father of Michael, Pamela (Gary) Helke, Randy, Darryl (Mary Jo), Rochelle (Joe) Cunningham, Alan, Brent, Steven, and the late David. Proud grandfather of 11; Great-grandfather of 5. Brother of the late Gordon (Peggy) Andersen. Harvey's love and pride of Country was apparent to all who knew him. He served his country during W.W. II as a communication specialist. He was in the European Theatre as well as the Battle of the Bulge. He was decorated with the Bronze Star. A highlight of Harvey's life was this past summer when Harvey, along with 87 of his fellow Veterans, flew to Washington D.C. as part of the Honor Flight. A big part of Harvey's life was spent at work. He was a machinist at Superior Match Co. as well as Bradley Industries. People always sought him out if they needed him to work on their special project. Harvey loved to travel. He frequently went to Branson, Missouri. He took a cruise to Alaska and he also fulfilled his dream of going to his father's birthplace in Jelling, Denmark. In his later years, Harvey moved to Rutherfordton, NC. He loved it there but come summertime he would pick up his things and move to Minong, Wisconsin for 4 or 5 months. Harvey was the kindest, most generous person his family and friends have ever known. He will be greatly missed. Visitation Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 3:00 - 9:00 PM at Smits, DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home, 649 E. 162nd St.(Rt.6/159th St.) South Holland, IL 60473.
