Elmer Robert Murphy Sr., 70, of Amma died suddenly Wednesday, March 14, 2006, at home.

He was the pastor of Big Otter Community Church and served many other churches in the area. He was also a Master Mason of Masonic Lodge 97 AF&AM, Clay, an Air Force veteran and a former heavy equipment operator for the mining industry and road construction. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He was the son of the late Banning Francis and Maggie Ethel May Murphy.

He is survived by his sons, Elmer Robert Murphy Jr. of Procious and Michael Edward Murphy of Amma; daughters, Barbara Ross and husband, Rick, of Kentuck and Kimberly Murphy of Charleston; brothers, Ray Murphy of Hurricane and Russell Murphy of Clay; sisters, Inez Maggio of Charleston, Zelma Heaters of Gassaway and Jane Cantley of Parkersburg; grandchildren, Robert Jordan, Tori Paige and Caitlyn Murphy, Shelby Rona Cutlip, Matthew Allen and Erin Michelle Ross; and special friends, Mavis Adkins and family.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, at Matics Funeral Home with Evangelist Markco Pritt officiating. Interment will be in Hamrick Cemetery, Swandale, with Masonic graveside rites.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are being handled by Matics Funeral Home, 124 First Ave., Clendenin.
