Lydia was the 3rd of 8 children born to Gottlieb and Bertha (Lau) Bartels on their farm in Saline County Nebraska, south of Tobias. She was baptized as an infant at Zion Lutheran Church in Saline county, and confirmed there in 1914. She married Carl Schwisow in 1921, also at Zion Lutheran Church. They had a daughter, Ruth, born the following year. (Ruth married Edwin Wessner and died in 2005 in Lyndonville, Kentucky.) Following Lydia's sudden death, her husband re-married (Minnie) and they had two children: Eugene (died as a young child and buried in this cemetery) and Adelaide.
