It becomes our sad duty to report the passing away of another of the very few remaining pioneers of Normanby in the person of Mrs. George Moore whose death took place on Sunday evening, Feb. 18th. aged 71 years. The deceased whose maiden name was Isabella Landels was born in the Paisely Block Guelph Tp. in the year 1841 and at the age of 18 years she was married to the man of her choice, who still survives, in Oct. 1859. About a year afterwards the spirited wedded couple headed for the "Queen's Bush" and settled on their farm in Normanby where she has lived continuously ever since. Together the courageous happy couple toiled and labored late and early with the pluck and courage so characteristic of the early pioneer and succeeded in making for themselves a comfortable home and fine farm.
The union was blessed by a family of nine children namely: George, deceased, Thomas, in Wilson, Mich. {should be New York}, Janie, Mrs. Charles Petty, Charlotte, Mrs. Jas. Morice, William in Flesherton, John in Wilson, Joe in Winnipeg, Mary, deceased and James on the homestead, all grown up and well to do.
The deceased was a very excellent person, a devoted wife and mother and a consistent member of Knox Congregation from almost its infancy.
Although for a number of years not any too rugged the deceased lady enjoyed a fair measure of health and untill a couple of days before her death there was no suspicion whatever, of what was to be the end. To the sorrowing life partner in life, now 80 years past, whose bereavement will be doubly severe, and to the sorrowing family we extend our sincere sympathy. Interment will take place on Wed. Feb 21st. to Maplewood Cemetery.
