Officer Gary Maufas, SLMPD, retired, passed away Monday moning on November 5Th, 2012.

Officer Gary Maufas, DSN 7488, was commissioned as a Police Officer on 09/22/1969. After graduating for the academy Officer Maufus was sent to the 8Th District for his first duty assignment on 01/12/1970. He remained in the 8Th until he was transferred to the 7Th District on 04/12/1976. Officer Maufas retired on a medical disability as a result of a on duty line of injury 01/23/1982.

It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Retired Police Officer Gary Maufas. Officer Maufas was shot in the line of duty while trying to subdue a gunman, which resulted in paralysis from the waist down. Prior to his injuries, Officer Maufas served the citizens of Saint Louis with dedication and due diligence.

Officer Maufas' career included assignments in the Eighth and Seventh Districts.


Officer Maufas leaves behind two sons Gary and Tyrone. Officer Maufas will be sorely missed by his friends and family.

Officer Maufas, on the behalf of the grateful citizens of the City of St. Louis and these great United States of America, we say thank you for your commitment and sacrifice. May God speed you on your journey.
