Donald was born Jul 23, 1952 in Lisbon, ND to Frank and Marion Andel. He was raised and educated in the
Fargo-Moorhead, MN area and graduated from Breckenridge (MN) High School in 1970. He joined the Air Force in 1971 and moved to Minot Air Force Base. He married Barbara Mogard Oct 7, 1972 in Upham. He was discharged from the Air Force in 1975 and continued to live in the Upham area. He farmed in McHenry County near Upham and Dearing. He was also working at Minot AFB as a mechanic at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Bloomfield-Melankton Lutheran Church in Upham and of the church council. He served on the Upham School Board for two terms, on a Farmers Home Administration Board and on the Little Deep Township Board. He was a member of the Upham Parent-Teachers Organization, the Upham Booster Club and the American Legion Post in Upham.

Donald died at the age of 40 from a heart attack on April 13, 1993 in a Minot hospital. At the time of death he was survived by his wife; two daughters; two sons; his mother; two brothers and four sisters.
