Former area resident Gerald D. "Gerry" Sanford, 87, of Lincoln, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m at Messiah Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Inurnment will be at a later date in Ayr. Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sanford was born Oct. 9, 1915, to Harry K. and Estella Churchill Sanford at Holstein. He graduated from Ayr High School and served in the U.S. Army. On Dec. 24, 1936 he married Dorothy E. Woods in Denver. He was retired director of engineering at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Lincoln and American Legion Post No. 3
Survivors are his wife; three daughters, Judith L. Johnson of Lincoln, Glenda R. Ruhter of Wood River and Barbara S. Smith of Elm Creek; one son, Larry E. of Ayr; two brothers, Roy of Russell, Kan., and Curtis of Lincoln; two sisters, Harriet Sorenson and Jessie Drzewiecki, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Memorials may be given to St. Elizabeth's Hospice or Messiah Lutheran Church.
