Elizabeth Addison died 21 February 1891 at the home of her daughter Martha Ann (Hemphill) Marshall near Everton, Boone County, and was buried in
nearby Crawford Cemetery. Her gravestone is a "fieldstone" and was placed there by her grandson, John Forester Marshall, a son of Martha.(And Martha is buried next to her).
The MAIDEN name for Elizabeth remains UNKNOWN.
It is determined through Census records that Elizabeth was born circa 1810. Those records are consistent in showing that the place of birth for Elizabeth was North Carolina. Elizabeth lived in the Hampton Township, McMinn County, Tennessee and it is not too far from the north border of Georgia. That area was once within the boundary of North Carolina.
According to family history, Elizabeth first married at age 13 (about 1823 ) to a Mister LONG. (His proper name remains unknown). They had at least two children that can be documented.(and there could be others). Those two are JAMES LONG and NANCY CAROLINE LONG. Nancy was born in 1829 and it is believed that Mister Long died the same year.
Elizabeth soon married the second time (about 1832) to HENRY HEMPHILL . Please note that the only name provided by descendants is HENRY HEMPHIL The addition of the name WILLIAM is not supported. It has never been determined if he passed away or relocated leaving the family behind (1839-1840).Documented children from that marriage are MARTHA ANN HEMPHILL, MARSHALL HENRY HEMPHILL, HENDERSON PIERSON HEMPHILL, and LYDDIA IZABELLE HEMPHILL. Lyddia was born about 1839 and in 1840 Elizabeth is recorded on the Census for McMinn County, Tennessee as "Betsy" Hemphill, Head of Household.---Elizabeth married third to "GENERAL" ANDREW JACKSON ADDISON who was a neighbor. Known children for this marriage are ANDREW JACKSON ADDISON, JR., REBECCA PARILEE ADDISON, JOHN MAYFIELD ADDISON, WILLIAM McCOY ADDISON, and a daughter ELIZABETH ADDISON who died young. This family was at times associated with Whitfield , Floyd ,and Murray Counties, Georgia. By 1850 this family is located on the Census for Izard County, Arkansas and by 1853 their names appear on Tax Lists for Marion County, Arkansas. In December 1854 General Addison filed Homestead Papers in Searcy County and stated that he had built a cabin and had cultivated land. The family is recorded on the Census for Searcy County in 1860 and during the Civil War they sought refuge in southern counties of Missouri. After the War they had located in Benton County, Arkansas and appeared on the Census there in !870. They later relocated to McDonald County, Missouri where they appear on the Special Census for McDonald County in 1876 . By 1877 Elizabeth and General Addison separated and she returned to the Marion / Searcy County area where she lived with sons Marshall and Henderson Hemphill and finally to Boone County where she lived with her daughter Martha Ann Hemphill Marshall. She died 21 February 1891 at Everton, Boone County. with burial in Crawford Cemetery.
Elizabeth left behind many family and descendants in the area of Boone, Marion, and Searcy Counties. Many of those names include (but not limited to) are Marshall, Rose, Nelson, Willis, Hemphill, Smothers and others as well as Addison and Burnett families in McDonald County, Missouri.
