ALEXANDER ACHESON, farmer, P. O. Larkin. Was born in Carroll County, Ohio, in 1836, and was raised a farmer but learned the blacksmith trade which he followed until his removal to Kansas in 1869, when he located on Section 17, Township 7, Range 18, and has 160 acres, 120 under cultivation. He was married in 1859, in Carroll County, Ohio, to Miss Mary E. McAllister, and has four children, viz: William, Anna M., Edward D. and Joseph H. He has been Treasurer of School District No. 54 for several years.

"Uncle" Alex Acheson, as he was familiarly known to both young and old, in Effingham and the vicinity round about, passed away at his home in Effingham, Wednesday morning. For several months, he had been failing in health, and the last few days he grew worse and worse until the Lord summoned him from this world of suffering to a realm where suffering and sorrow are unknown. Mr. Acheson was born Sept. 22, 1836, in Carol County, Ohio. He married Mary McAlister, Aug. 28, 1860, in Ohio. They came to Kansas April 16, 1869 and located on a farm 5 miles south of Effingham, where he lived until he moved to Effingham 25 years ago. Mrs. Acheson died Dec. 23, 1884, leaving him with four children. Ed died in 1885 and another son, Joe, was kicked by a horse and killed in 1886.
"The two living children are Mrs. Ed High, of Prairie View neighborhood, and J. W. Acheson, of Effingham.
"The deceased is also survived by three grandchildren: Mrs. Andrew Azlein, of Farmer, Mo..; Mrs. Henry Meyer, Nortonville; Ray Acheson, Monrovia. "Uncle" Alex was married to Maggie Dickson, of Ohio, April 18, 1887. She died twelve years ago. Since that time he has lived with his son Wm. Acheson, who with the able assistance of Mrs. Acheson, cared for him in a tenderly manner. "Uncle" Alex became a member of the United Presbyterian church at Nortonville, many years ago. After the church disbanded he transferred his membership to Effingham, where he attended until he was totally blind. Mr. Acheson, despite his affliction spent much time on the streets and in the business houses. He was optimistic and everybody was kind to him. He had a wonderful memory, an alert mind, and was cheerful through his affliction.
"Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the Presbyterian church with Rev. E. L. Brown in charge.'
