TWO PERSONS DIE IN CAR CRASH

Mrs. Welsey E. Getz and Daughter, Nadine, Age 8, Are Fatally Injured Sunday Afternoon

THREE OTHERS INJURED

Mr. Getz, Winifred Getz, 5, and George H. White Will Recover, It Is Believed.

Mrs. Wesley E. Getz, 2023 West Sixth, and her daughter, Nadine, age 8, were fatally injured and Mr. Getz, another daughter, Winifred Getz, and George H. White, 2 State, suffered serious injuries as the result of a motorcar accident about 3:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, three miles west of Emporia on Highway 50S. Mrs. Getz and Nadine died soon after they were received at Newman Memorial County hospital.

White's Jewett sedan, in which all five were riding, was demolished when a right front tire blew out and the car collided with a small culvert by the side of the highway near the Willard Caldwell farm.

Mrs. Getz suffered severe injuries and lived only a few minutes after she reached at the hospital. Nadine Getz suffered internal injuries and a fractured skull. Both were unconscious when taken to the hospital. Mr. Getz, 36, suffered a severe cut on the back and left of his scalp and many bruises. Winifred Getz, 5, suffered cuts on the neck and minor cuts and scratches. Mr. White, 33 suffered six broken ribs and internal injuries, the extent of which has not been determined. He also received cuts about the face.

The injured persons were taken to the hospital by a Southern Kansas stage line bus, driven by Joe White, Wichita, which had been following the White car.

The party was returning from a fishing trip. Getz was driving because White had been given treatments Saturday for a snakebite and was not feeling well. An ambulance was called but when it arrived the bus had already taken the injured persons to the hospital.

White is the oil truck driver for the Rich Coal company. Getz is a laborer.

Funeral arrangements have not been made for Mrs. Getz and her daughter.

Mrs. Getz's maiden name was Miss Lottie Austin. She was born February 20, 1905 in Americus and was married to Wesley E. Getz December 23, 1923 in Emporia. Mrs. Getz is survived by Mr. Getz, one daughter, Winifred Louise Getz; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Austin, 228 South Mechanic; three sisters, Mrs. C. W. Dobson, Mrs. Jack Dow and Mrs. B. I. Getz, of Emporia, and two brothers, S. M. Austin, of Emporia, and Orville Austin, of Alturas, Calif. Another brother, Warren Austin, was killed three years ago when dirt caved in while he was working on pipeline construction.

Nadine Adell Getz was born August 18, 1924, in Emporia. She was a pupil in the A Class of the second grade of the Mary Herbert School.
