ADA-Services for Walter S. Elkins Jr., 93, Ada, are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Shawn Wiebers officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Mr. Elkins died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at an Oklahoma City nursing center. He was born Oct. 22, 1919, to Walter S. Elkins Sr. and Lillie F. Roden Elkins at Coalgate.

He attended school at Centrahoma and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps when he was 16. He served in the United States Army from 1939 to 1945, earning the rank of Quarter Master Staff Sargent. He was a World War II veteran.

He owned and operated a store at Union Valley and operated a farm at Owl Creek. Later he worked as a clerk at several businesses in downtown Ada. He retired in 1982. Mr. Elkins was a member of Union Valley Baptist Church.

He and Lucille M. Scott were married Oct. 3, 1942, at Ada. She died March 14, 2011, at Ada.

Survivors are one brother, Bill Elkins, Ada; two sons, Ron Elkins and wife Mary, San Antonio, Texas, and Larry Elkins, Ada; three grandchildren, Michelle Elkins and Tim Elkins, both of Ada, and Eric Carr, Bettendorf, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter, Pamela.
