Arleen Bentley Bryant was welcomed back to her heavenly home on November 2, 2012, after the result of a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on December 27, 1919 in Parowan, Utah, the first daughter of Ellen Jane Robinson and Ellis Banks Bentley.

Arleen was the mother of two children, Kay Anne and Allen Kay, and cherished the time she was able to spend with her family. Her home was always open to friends and family, including several nieces and nephews who lived with her during teenaged summers and while attending college. She loved family get-togethers of all sorts, and spent many hours happily preparing meals to share with her extended family. She loved spending time at the cabin she and Kay built on Cedar mountain. She also enjoyed crocheting, making many beautiful doilies and other items, and she was an accomplished seamstress. Arleen was truly a beautiful soul who strove to make sure others knew how much she loved them in word and deed.

From the time she learned how, she was a voracious reader. As a child she spent many hours at the city library, and many more hiding in the orchard grass or apple trees with a good book. Her love of reading continued throughout her life. Arleen graduated from Parowan High School, and pursued her dream of becoming a typist at Stevens-Henegar Business School in Salt Lake City, Utah with the assistance of a scholarship in a time when few women went to college. She had a lifelong love of travel and adventure.

Fiercely independent, she traveled to Los Angeles where she worked for several years before the onset of World War II. Through the long years of war, she corresponded with Kay U. Bryant, a friend of her cousin. After the war, she moved to Cedar City where she and Kay were married and raised their family.

Arleen worked for many years doing medical transcription and insurance billing for physicians in Cedar City, including Dr. Broadbent, Dr. Farnsworth, Dr. David Brown and Dr. McNaught. She was known for her cheerful nature, optimism and professionalism in the workplace.

Arleen is survived by her children, Kay Anne Cantonwine and Allen Kay Bryant both of Cedar City, her grandchildren Lori (Troy) Bunker - Enoch, Utah and Gina (Justin) Dansie - Draper, Utah as well as great-grandchildren Aaron, Rochelle, Alexis, Chelsea, Kayli, Amber and another great granddaughter due this spring, as well as three great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews to whom she was a second-mother. Arleen was preceded in death by her husband Kay, her parents, her sister Janice and her son-in-law Steve Cantonwine.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Marshall and Southern Utah Hospice for the tender, loving care they provided to her.

A visitation will be held at Southern Utah Mortuary on Sunday, November 4, 2012, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. In honor of Arleen's wishes, no formal funeral will be held. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of her life on Monday, November 5, 2012, at 12:00 p.m. at the Southern Utah Mortuary. Interment will be at the Cedar City Cemetery immediately following her celebration.
