In 1901, at age 59, residence is listed as Toronto Gore, Peel, Ontario, Canada
Died 30-May-1902 at age 60 at Coleraine, Toronto Gore Twp, Peel County, Ontario, and buried at Nashville (Zoar Primitive Methodist Church) Cemetery, York County, Ontario.

"For eight years John was on Toronto Gore Council and was master of Craven's Lodge L.O.L. at Coleraine, Ontario, at the time of his death. On May 29, 1902 John, at the age of sixty, was helping at a barn raising on the farm of a neighbour, William Kersey. Ellen was helping the woman in the kitchen cooking for the men. A timber fell off the roof of the barn and hit John on his head, he never regained consciousness and passed away the next day, leaving his widow and seven children."
