William (went by Bill) Houston Apel was the fourth of ten known children of Gottlieb William B. Apel (1823-1898) and Melissa (or Mary? or was Mary a nickname?) Elizabeth Rothrock Apel (1838-1915), who married 03 Jun 1858 at Wood County, Texas.
Bill first married to Mary Elizabeth Davis (1872-1899) on 11 Feb 1890 at Upshur County, Texas. Bill and Mary were the parents of three known children, namely:
1. Lydia "Liddie" Chrystina Apel (1890-1905)
2. Willie Mae Apel Mount (1894-1983)
3. Mary Leona Apel Bartlett Brabham (1896-1982)
After Mary died, Bill remarried to Ruth N. Smart (1891-???) in Nov 1918 at Wood County, Texas. It is not known when Ruth died or where she is buried.
