STRAWN - Donald Theodore Meyer, 90, Appleton, Wis., formerly of Strawn, Anchor and Paxton, died Monday (June 25, 2007) at Darboy Living Center, Appleton.

His funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Paxton, with the Rev. Jeff Cottingham and the Rev. Jonathan Litzner officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Sibley. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements are by Knapp-Miller Funeral Home, Paxton.

Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Paxton.
He was born Sept. 15, 1916, The second of four children of Theodore and Minnie Marie Helena Winter Meyer, he married Elise H. Brucker on Feb. 12, 1939. Elise died of cancer March 1957, not long after the birth of her second son. The cancer which could not be treated because of her pregnancy. They had four children. The younger son was raised by Donald's sister, Vera Burns. He married Martha Apland on Jan. 14, 1961, at Elliott. She died in 1999.

Surviving is one daughter, Donna Rae Mickelsen, Midvale, Utah; two sons, Gary (Sandy) Meyer, Mariposa, Calif., and Phillip (Janet) Meyer, Appleton, Wis.; one sister, Mildred Petersen, Colfax; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carl Meyer; one sister, Vera Burns; and one daughter, Carol Ann Litzner.

He was a lifetime member of the Lutheran church. He was baptized and spent the majority of his life as a committed member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sibley, until his retirement, when he moved and transferred his membership to First Lutheran Church in Paxton. He was a member of Paxton Service Club.

He farmed his entire life, three years in the Strawn area and 40 years in the Anchor area. He was Anchor township assessor for 27 years in McLean County.

During his lifetime, he was a well-respected community leader and was a wonderful husband, father and a friend to all.
