Charles Addison Rathbun Passes Away at Home in Louisville - Thursday, March 6th. (1930)
The death of Charles Addison Rathbun, well loved citizen of Louisville, occurred at his home on Thursday, March 6, 1930, following an illness from heart trouble, although he had been up and around and was apparently on the road to recovery. His death came suddenly and was a great shock to his family and friends.
Mr. Rathbun was a son of Mrs. Ellen Rathbun, one of Louisville's highly esteemed pioneer citizens. He was born here, June 3, 1889, and at the time of his death he was 40 years, 9 months and three days old. He grew to manhood in this vicinity and was well known and had a host of friends. He was married July 4, 1913, to Miss Lorean Krecklow, daughter of another pioneer family, the late Mr. and Mrs. William Krecklow. To this union three children were born.
The funeral occurred Sunday afternoon from the M. E. church which was taxed to capacity by friends and relatives who wished to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed...Interment was in River View cemetery.
Mr. Rathbun followed in the footsteps of his father, the late C. F. Rathbun, who died in 1910, as a carpenter and builder, and was a good workman. Ill health had pursued him over an extended period of time but his family had hoped that with the best of medical advice and good care, he might gradually overcome his trouble. His death has been a sad blow to his loved ones.
He is survived by his widow and three children, Billy, aged 15, Loretta, 12 and Maxine, 8. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Ellen Rathbun, of Louisville; one brother, Frank, of Merriman; five sisters, Mrs. F. H. Ossenkop and Mrs. Frank Tyo, of Louisville; Mrs. Dennis Gardner,of Merriman; Mrs. George Thomson, of Omaha and Mrs. C. Clobridge of Los Angeles.
One particularly sad feature connected with the death of Mr. Rathbun was a message the day following his demise, of the death of a sister, Mrs. James Tomlin, of Beverly, Illinois, who leaves her husband and a grown son. Mrs. Tomlin was well known here in former days and was Miss Ella Rathbun. The sympathy of the community goes out to the family in their deep bereavement.
The widow recently suffered the loss of an aunt, Mrs. Lester Burrows, who died on February 1. She lived at Plattsmouth where she was greatly loved and widely known. Her maiden name was Louise Guthmann and after the death of Mrs. Rathbun's mother, Mrs. William Krecklow, Mrs. Burrows looked after the family for years and was loved almost as a mother.
