Iver Tollefson, Veteran and Pioneer, Dead
Iver Tollefson, pioneer, civil war veteran and one of the best known of the
county’s residents, is dead, aged 76, death occurring Saturday, due to age
and illness of some duration. A widow and seven children, Even, Walter, this

Chicago and Mrs. George Kelley, Rhinelander, survive. The funeral will be held
Tuesday at 2 from the First Norwegian church, Rev. Hull officiating.
Mr. Tollefson, a native of Norway, came to Manitowoc in 1854 and one year later
was married at Jerpen to Mary Rudl?. In 1857 the family removed to Kansas where
they remained for six years when Mr. Tollefson came back here and enlisted,
being assigned to the 45th Wisconsin regiment, with which he served until the
close of the war. Though in many engagements, Mr. Tollefson was fortunate in
that he was never wounded. Returning here at the close of the war, he has since
