Allison William "Buss" Broadbent, 89, Topeka, died Friday Feb. 21, 1997 at his home. Mr. Broadbent was a truck driver for Hill Packing Co. from 1940 until 1972. He was Hill's first over-the-road driver. He was also a farmer. He was born April 20, 1907 in Corning, the son of William and Gerta Funk Broadbent. Mr. Broadbent was a member of Northland Christian Church and Teamster's Union Local No 696. He married Juanita L. Thurman on June 28, 1933 at Seneca. She died Feb. 10, 1995. A daughter, Ruth Broadbent, died in 1954. Survivors include three sons, Duane Broadbent, Ballantine, Mont., and William Broadbent and Larry Broadbent, both of Topeka; three daughters, Helen Fiebig, Barbara Sowards and Shirley Miller, all of Topeka; one brother, Marvin Broadbent, Corning; three sisters, Donna Shepherd, Onaga and Edwina Johnson and Veda Wells, both of Topeka; 20 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 17 step-great grandchildren; and 1 step-great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be at 10 am Wednesday at Northland Christian Church. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery. He will lie in state after 8 am Tuesday at Parker-Price Mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 7 pm until 8:30 pm Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels or Stormont-Vail Home Health and sent in care of the mortuary.
