Mrs. Lydia Fair Dimmitt, 95-year-old former Ottumwan and widow of Robert C. Dimmitt, died Monday at her home in Huntington Park, Calif.
Born near Manchester, Md., May 18, 1853, she moved to the Ottumwa area with her parents at the age of three. Her marriage to Robert C. Dimmitt took place March 9, 1875. The couple lived on a farm near Ottumwa for 57 years prior to moving to California in March of 1907, locating first near Huntington Beach and then in Downey. In the fall of 1913 they moved to Huntington Beach where they bought the home in which they have lived for the past 30 years. A member of the Immanuel Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles, Mrs. Dimmitt was also affiliated with the Huntington Park Order of Eastern Star and was a member of the Pioneer Club of Downey for more than 40 years.
Preceding her in death were her husband; two daughters, Lura Etta, and Mrs. Clydena B. Gephart; and two sons, Robert Earl and Herbert Harry.
Mrs. Dimmitt is survived by two daughters, Miss L. Mabel Dimmitt and Mrs. Kyle D. Hofmann, three sons, Howard G. Dimmitt of Sioux City, Clarence C. Dimmitt of Bell Gardens, Calif., and Ralph B. Dimmitt of Balboa Island, Calif., 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
